[Steering & Suspension] URGENT HELP NEEDED, rear suspension dropped

I have a berlingo 2001 800kg 1.9D, I've always got near to the max payload in the van so it is under heave use all the time,

I noticed earlier after I went over a pot hot hole I heard a bang, now the rear of the van has dropped completely. I think I have oil shock absorbers and I did have 2 small helper springs ( one went missing last year ) both shock absobers look completely closed and the one helper Spring that is there is completely compressed so on both side where the small Spring fit on the rubber mounts, the rubber mounts are squashed together.  So first thing I need to know is:

1. Is it only shock absorbers and helper springs I need to restore the rear suspension to fully working order?

2. Where in hell can I get these helper springs from? Can't find any anywhere

Why new axle ? Do they have internal springs in them?

They have transverse torsion bars & 1 or both have broken. At that age the demon rust will have siezed bolts  etc.If you're handy with spanners they  can be replaced but a new assembly makes more sense to me.

Its easyer just to replace the whole lot,a mechanic could take hours taking your old one to bits,replacing this,that,so probely cheaper to get a recon axle,my garage wouldnt even try to repair my old axle,they just said get a recon one,

Google rear axle repairs. Lots of Youtube videos on the subject.

If you buy an exchange reconditioned axle from a reputable source you should have nothing to fit into the axle but you might be advised to get new rear hubs and bearings as a service part, the old ones are use once items according to the service manual.

I got mine from IM AXLES,didn't bother with new hubs,bearings,ect,

Hi,
Helper springs are available from Grayston or Ekollon (MAD Springs). I would recommend the MAD type (fitted a pair recently - about £90 all in.)  B11 is the type you need. Ekollon phone no. is 01386 882997. If no reply leave a message and he will get back to you pretty pronto. They also have a web site. The advantage of the MAD springs is that you probably only need to buy the springs not the full kit which is a very big saving.
