Boing - ing noise from suspension
#1
Hi everyone could i please have your help,

recently my berlingo has started to make a boing - ing noise from what sounds like the rear of the car it is confusing me because it sounds like the noise of a spring but i cant see any springs at rear.

Also it tends to do it when setting off after realising handbrake and rear of car goes down under acceleration and it also does it when going over bumps but not all time. it seems to have only started doing it after we took our caravan out for the first time to tow with it and the caravan isn't too heavy for the car. some people have said check front springs but i havent yet but the thing is car has just passed it test.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks Matt

I've a similar thing on my 04 2.0hdi. I've decided it's brake related, sounds like a spring releasing late, so I'd also be interested to here any suggestions as to what to look for.

It might be spring linked to load sensing valve for brakes.

Hi Matt,
I had the same problem with my 2003 berlingo.
It kept going boing untill the front spring snapped.
I took the cat to my local Auto point centre and had both front springs replaced.
I was warned not to go through big puddles in the future as it starts to rot the springs.
Your problem may not be the same as mine, so i would reconend that you take the car to a local centre and ask them to investigate. It should not cost you anything, but will give you an idea what is wrong.

The poor moggy!!

Mine does the same over speed bumps. It's definitely the rear end of the car.

It's not got worse or caused any problems and passed it's MOT, so I just put it down to age of the car!!

its the spring on the load sensing valve,it wears a groove in the end which then sticks and then boings when you move.its behind the offside rear wheel(uk)work the valve with your hand and you can see this happen.just bend the end to a circle and job done! hope this is of use and works for you !

hey up folks,

I have had a look at the front springs and they seem fine with no signs of rust but i have tried looking for the load sensing valve and cant seem to find it, do i need to jack the car up with the rear wheels off?

thanks again for support so far
