1.6 Hdi engine mounts (Mark 2)
#1
Hi yeah,

My van seems to have broken an engine mount, sounds like that sort.of an issue anyway. So basically I was wondering where to start??

How many mounts are there and where are they positioned?? Is there any more prone to failure than others?? Can the all be removed and replaced easily enough??

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Three mounts right, on the top, left under the battery tray and rear. You might have to remove a driveshaft to do the rear and the other two you will have to prop the engine up. What engine do you have and what do you consider easy enough ? If you've never picked a spanner up and rolled round under a car engine mounts are not what you want to start with. If you are a seasoned DIY mechanic they are fiddly but not the worst as long as you have the car up enough to work on and the tools for the job.
So where does this bit go then ?

Cheers. It's the 1.6 hdi and I'm fairly handy with the spanners but don't have a lift. I'll be jacking up the van and lying under it, if that's feasible??

Well I got under the van this evening to investigate and as it turned out there there is a metal bash plate under the engine which has gotten pushed up against the exhaust. And it was this that was making all the noise...
