1.9d engine rattle/unsmooth throttle

hi, ive recently bought a 1.9d 97000 on the clock. took it for a long drive over the weekend and discovered when pulling away if I put my foot down the power seems to be jerky and unsmooth? also has a rattly metal sound.

First things first oil+filter and fuel and air filter then go from there

the lad before me put a daft k&n air filter on it could that be a reason too much air flow?

I doubt it but it may be blocked so give it a clean.

Yes if you have no idea when it was last done but defo change the fuel filter - at least you know where you are starting from then with your problems.

changed the fuel filter but still no joy. recently had oil and filter change. Any other suggestions?

Ideally you need someone with a mechanics ear to listen to the rattling i suspect thats your next port of call. I would look for an old boy like me who grew up diaging problems with his ear. Next it would be to plug in to a diagnostic machine.

At 97k thats quite low mileage as the 1.9 is capable of 300k+ if looked after.

Does it run fine otherwise ?

Try injector cleaner just in case ( long shot )

EGR rattling ? easy to remove to check, when off blank to two vacuum lines to disable it.

Do you do any spannering ?

seems to run fine although stuck in traffic for a while the temp seemed to be creeping up more than im used too in previous vehicles? im quite handy is it easy enough to disable the egr?
