hello all just bought a 55 plate partner 2.0 hdi combi, im happy with it but got a few probs i want to sort so any advice helpfull thanks, steering is losing its assitance on 1/4 lock steering wheel is trying to turn right to left about half an inch going round corners, at 1200 revs there a bit of a flat spot. banging noise sounds like a ball joint gone on offside front think its coming from the top of leg as i drive over slight bump. offside rear wheel is closer to the back bumper than the nearside, airbag light on, any advice would be good, ive been in motor trade 29 years, adam

hi, try lubricating the bottom steering column UJ where it sticks through into the engine bay, common issue is when they dry up and start seizing,I thought mine was a fluid problem so I changed the fluid, all it was was the UJ, sprayed with wd40 a few mornings before i went out driving and it was an instant fix,I only used the wd initially to free it off, then used a spray grease...over to the others for the rest sorry ..Ian

this seems more like the power steering is going on and off, if i keep wheel turned about 1/4 turn in the same position you can feel the power steering working and not working, but i will try oiling the uj and see what happerns thanks

I also thought power steering,it was mainly at a quarter turn either way, entering or leaving roundabouts etc,I'm doing 3000 a week in mine ,mainly motorway cruising with very little movement of the wheel, also you'll find it's fine when it's raining then gets worse as it dries out again.mines like a new van now,not a 200000 miler :-)

Peugeot/Citroen trailing arm axles are prone to seizing, collapsing bearings inside the tube. My old 306 did it, my 206 has done it and the berlingo I have now.
I find the trailing arm gets stuck, if left long enough will wear the inner? tyre shoulder. The tyre side wall can also rub on the rear arch liner, as my berlingo started.
A good test is to see if you can fit fingers from the top of the tyre down the side wall. Viewing from the back the wheel might also look at a bit of an angle due to the arm dropped and stuck.
I didn't want the hassle so opted for a recon axle a bit pricey though. You can get bearings and shims but its a fair job pulling them out when i tried years ago.

Does the axle look fairly clean with paint still on it ? You might just need to undo the bolts holding it on and check the alignment.
So where does this bit go then ?
