[Steering & Suspension] Steering Wheel removal with air bag Mk1
#1
Hi,

Bought an old Berlingo van 1.9D with 150,000 on the clock. Despite its age all appears good after some fix ups. Issue I have is the steering wheel cover is  moving, physicaly the hand grip has detached from the metal inside and flexes so I need a new steering wheel.

Issue is I can remove it no problem done several before BUT not with an airbag. Last thing I want to do is set it off in my face. Can any one advise how best to remove it and what I should avoid!

Thanks

Haynes says disconnect battery, leave it for 15nins for capacitor to discharge (I have always left it longer just in case), then remove with care! The bright yellow wires are the ones carrying the airbag current. Also when you've taken it off place it face down (that's what an older Haynes said once anyway).

Then reconnect when you're done and hope!
