Had mine done about 3 months ago, sounded exactly the same. Its the release bearing, which has a plastic centre that slides on a tube on the main shaft (Great idea Peugeot). When it wears it runs hot and breaks up the plastic which will eventually jam the bearing on the tube and leave you stranded. Better done sooner rather than later, you've got about 100 miles left on it when it starts squealing like a piggy.

It's not a Peugeot idea, lots of manufacturers use the same method, how many miles has the clutch done and is it slipping or has it been done before ? I have seen clutches where the diaphragm fingers have worn and broken through because the wrong release bearing has been installed and made noises like that is doing. Unless you've had the car from new and you know the full history it is hard to pinpoint from a noise.
So where does this bit go then ?

Dont know if this is what happened, but it started squealing tonight and stranded me about 5 minutes from home! Have work at 0630 so it's parked up for the night and will hopefully get a recovery agent to it in teh morning and up to the garage. I definately didn't get 100 miles aftr it started squealing! more like 5!

van has 106k on it and I thought it got a new clutch at 80k but im not sure since this has happened, pretty sure the flywheel has gone too and it needs a new tming belet because again im not sure it's been done so going to be exxpensive but if i get it to 200,000 then i'll get my money worth out of it....

Damn that's bad luck mic, sorry to hear it. I'd be very surprised if it isn't the release bearing! As a guideline I can say that an LUK/Borg & Beck clutch kit is about £65, input shaft sleeve/seal was £12 and it cost £180 cash for my local garage to fit it. Hope you get sorted soon!
