[Filters & Oil] 2.0HDi Engine Oil Capacity - Display says nearly empy - Dipstick says too full ?
#1
Anyone done an Oil & Filter change recently, if so how much oil did you use?
According to what I've read, the official overall capacity is 4.5L including a filter but after pouring 5L in my dash display only has 2 full sections, meanwhile the dipstick is past the top marker. I did read on another forum that 5.5L may be needed, but am reluctant to overfill.

Thanks

I think i would go with the dipstick reading - so long as you are on a flat level surface

Yeah, the dipstick seems to be the best option for future reference. After sitting for a while, the dash display now says full! The dipstick level is too high after 5L so I'll let some out and use it for top-up.

probably a float valve in the sump that gives the electronic reading - might be stuck closed with some gunk in it perhaps?

I think it just takes a while to respond, the reading is now correct. One of those things to get used to.

In that case I'm 0.5L over, I'll drain some out tomorrow and keep it in case I need to top up later.

Many thanks.

Alloy or steel sump makes a difference 4.5ltr steel 4.2ltr aluminium sump. From min to max is 1.5ltr difference. Ours is an aluminum sump and it reads full on the dipstick with 4.5ltr so I wouldn't worry about a bit of overfill.
So where does this bit go then ?
