Kenwood Cd player into 06 berlingo wiring solved

hi people, got an aftermarket Kenwood CD player and was having problems with the wiring, not working from ignition and being constantly on. Read a lot on here about potential pitfalls and problems of incorrect wiring and possible BSI damage if done incorrectly. So I took my multi-meter out to the car and started testing wires on the loom as some people said swapping Yellow and Red on stereo loom could fix this problem... 

Not wanting to damage anything I thought tests would be best first. So here are the results of my test:

The Berlingo harness has 6 connectors. but 7 wires as 2 go to one pin. the function of these after my tests are as follows:
with the clip facing left when in your hand:

Top Row from right to left (clip)
Green and yellow wire is Earth/Ground
Grey is Switched/ignition 12v
Green is Eco Mod 12v (goes off after 2 minutes)
Orange is Data/Display (varied voltage)

Bottom Row right to left (clip)
Grey and White to one pin 12v permanent live
Blue Data/Display (varied voltage)

So I got my new Kenwood Stereo working from ignition and storing the presets and memory function. I had to swap around some pins on stereo connector. To do this attach:
Ground/earth pin remains unchanged. Black (stereo) to green/yellow (harness)
Switch/Ignition Red (stereo) to Grey (harness)
12v Live/Battery Yellow (stereo) to Grey/White dual wire pin (Harness)
Blue/white (stereo) to empty socket (harness)

The result of this is I now have a fully working after market CD player, which turns off with the ignition and also stores radio stations pre-sets. The display on center console does not freeze and displays date/time and door open messages without freezing, but you do need to disconnect Battery when doing this so BSI can reset and to prevent damage to the unit. no radio info is displayed anymore. but no dimming of Display and display still dims when lights turned on. Have had no ill effects from doing this as yet. Obviously steering stalk controls are disabled. but that was not the object of my exercise. an aftermarket harness would be required to retain these functions.

Sorry there are no pics as unsure how to post them up. but hope this proves useful to others fitting aftermarket stereos to their Berlingo, without the need for a harness or adapter. It is a Kenwood unit fitted replacing the tape player. other manufacturers units may need yellow and red swapped over. but check your stereo handbook for wire/colour function. Hope this helps people as not a lot of info on this.

My Berlingo is an 06 2.0 HDI Van. so unsure if other models have different functions for wires etc.

I fitted aftermarket one ,was all OK until I turned ignition off,the all my dash light up,fuel gauge flashing,it was like I tuned ignition on but I had the keys in my hand???.so disconnected it and put it in the shed..maybe I should of disconnected battery first,but I'm affair to try it again,

you need to check the harness for your aftermarket radio. sounds like one of the pins was attached to the blue or orange wire on the Berlingo plug. as these are for the BSI and associated electronics. My'n is fine still and no problems, turns on and off via ignition.

You need to buy a wiring adaptor from Connects2.

I think it is it the CT002 for the mk2 Berlingo

Sorry should have said if you want to avoid having to get too involved with a multimeter as above.

Or get a mate with Lexia to tell the BSI that there's no head unit installed. It then completely ignores the non-standard unit and everything works fine. This is what I've done on mine.

You need to buy a wiring adaptor from Connects2.

I think it is it the CT002 for the mk2 Berlingo

I've just done mine. The ignition live needs to go where the permenant live is and the permenant live moving to the third one along on the side where the earth is. The pins cone out if you take out the yellow locking clip and use a tool or I use a split pin to unlock the clips on the terminals
