[Transmission] 5th straight into Reverse

Hi all, long time lurker. The gearbox in my 07 Mk2  1.9d van has developed a problem. When going from 5th to 4th the spring/gate (??) that stops it slipping straight into reverse has gone AWOL. Sometimes going from 4th to 3rd will also end up going straight into reverse. There is no crunching/grinding or other noises.

Anyone come across this before.

I have sourced a replacement 'box from a 1998 M1 1.9d. Anybody know if it will fit. It will cost me nothing except a few scraped knuckles and a couple of beer tokens to get it.
