Another newcomer, soon to be an owner.

Hi all, just to introduce myself.
New here but certainly not new to forums Wink

Currently very active on the VW T25 ("Wedge") forum, but that will be changing soon. With a heavy heart I will be selling my T25 Tin-Top campervan, which I have owned for ~12 years now. I am not getting any younger and now live in a place with no garage or proper drive way, so doing all the repairs one has to on a 31 year old VW camper is getting to be a pain in the butt.

For weeks now, when driving on the motorways of the West Midlands, I have been looking at vehicles and thinking "what next"? I have, after seeing a few of these, decided a Berlingo Desire (thinking 8V 2.0HDi ?)will suit my current needs just fine. I no longer need a "full on" camper van, but need summat I can sleep over in, at Steam Rallies, Air Shows, Classic bike & car racing and the occasional small music festival / party type things.

Off now to browse the forum some more and get a flavour of what the small Belingos are like to own.

Regards to all,
John (on the N. Shropshire / S. Cheshire border)
Regards to all,

Aye, I'm still just at the "looking" stage right now. The camper is due an MOT in about 4 weeks, and after that, I will be selling it and at that point buying a Berlingo Smile

Looking around on here (and the net in general) there doesn't seem to be much in the way of stuff to watch out for on them does there. Obviously overall condition and mileage, but then it seems mostly look for a complete service history, especially on the turbo ones, though I am leaning towards an 8V 1.9 for it's simplicity.

Any other pointers would be appreciated, such as, are there any rust prone areas etc?
Regards to all,
John - (2005 2.0HDi with Modutop roof, mini camper).

Still at the looking around, can't actually commit to buying one until the VW is repaired and sold.

Well the VW camper has passed it's mot, so that will be sold soon. Then it's time to stop all this "looking" and actually buy one Wink

Still unsure whether to go for a 2.0Ltr Hdi or a 1.6 Petrol though, decisions decisions......

And so many of them are silver, I would prefer green !!

2 litre HDi any day of the week over a 1.6 Petrol! Better economy, less to go wrong (contrary to belief) better to drive due to the diesel torque and laziness..

Aye, the reason I was including the petrol engine is the lack of the complications of EGR and DPF (especially the latter !!) and "limp mode" issues etc. I am perfectly OK working on "normal" engines, but I don't know much about modern Diesels though, so would be relying on garages to fix stuff if I went that route.

I wonder when they introduced the DPF on the 2.0Ltr Hdi ?

There is no 2.0 8v HDi in the M59 model (up to 2008) that has a DPF. It's a simple, reliable motor. They go on forever!

Mine's remapped to 123bhp and it goes like stink Smile
