[Engine] Stop solenoid
#1
I broke down today.  I switched engine off and it wouldn't start again. Called AA and they said the stop solenoid wasn't getting a feed during cranking.
The van is R reg and non turbo it has the keypad immobiliser but had that bypassed the 1st time I had an issue. And has started fine from cold since (never started from hot before.)
Does anyone know what I can do or have a wiring solution I can try? AA guy put a live to the top of solenoid while I cranked it over and it started fine and drove fine
Thanks in advance

Hi

I would first check the bypass wiring which was put in Place on the immobiliser .It could be that one of the Earth wire has fallen off.It seems a bit strange that the AA used this method, but that sort of confirms that there may be a loose cable.Have a look and let us know how you get on

Do you know where I can get a wiring diagram for the original connection as I think it was used for the bypass as there seems to be no additional wires added to that area. But saying that there is 1 wire floating. Surely the solenoid would earth to the metal it's screwed in to?

Hi

Here is the Link to the Haynes Manual.

If they have bypassed the immobiliser then they may have put an inline fuse

Let me know what you find please

our 1.9d has the stop solenoid wired to the ignition switched feed to the reversing light switch , theyre quite close together.

Ok Ensure that they both have power on the ignition switch when the key is in the 2nd position.disconnect from the solenoid first .See if the power drops when the key is turned .If there is a power drop replace the wire direct from the switch to the solenoid .If that doesn't work then you will be looking at replacing the solenoid

Just a quick thought have you checked the fuses as the reversing lights and Ecu are on the same fuse if I remember
