BSI-less
#1
Hi new to forum, Straight to the point I have chance of buying a Berlingo 2HDI 53plate, but the owner says he had it into a garage because all the lights and clocks lit up and wouldn't start, long story short 5 weeks later he got it back minus what I believe is the BSI unit, what are the pitfalls of buying this and can it be sorted and what kind of money pit could it end up being will I need new ecu keys and bsi ? is it a diy job or will I need a computer guy incvolved? cheers Eddie

That's an interesting idea, I suppose it could be done to do away with the BSI. It would have meant a major rewiring job, wiring up the separate components to work from the switches/fuse boxes direct ?

Probably cheaper just to fit a new BSI

It probably would have done away with the ECU, and that would mean a change in the emissions and MPG .

Its the first I have heard of it being done and to reverse it would mean another major rewiring job, sourcing of parts to suit the originals

Removing the BSI means that it would have to be taken back to a pre-2000 wiring.
That means an ECU from a pre-2000 motor, a separate central locking unit and quite a lot of other things.

My suggestion?

PANIC!
Run around in circles and screaming.

Anything but buying that car.

The car in question is a non runner because of the missing bsi I unit, what I need to know is what do I need to get it running ie can I just source a bsi from a scrapper or do I need more component as well or is this the car itself just a scrapper, seems a shame as it looks a tidy motor

I am still a rank beginner when it comes to Berlingos, but.......

If I understand it correctly, this car is simply missing it's BSI unit. All the talk of wiring (above ^^^) is perhaps clouding the water.

So, if it has just had it's BSI unit removed, then putting a replacement unit on it should work fine as far as I know. Are the keys "tied" to a particular BSI unit, I am guessing they are.

Someone else will be along soon to say what else you might need to get off the donor vehicle.
Regards to all,
John - (2005 2.0HDi with Modutop roof, mini camper).

EVERYTHING is tied into the BSI.
And it is incredibly difficult to reprogram a used BSI, if I understand it correctly.

Yes it is missing the BSI unit, apparently it got lost in the post, so there is no BSI for an exchange unit.

To get it going again you will need either a new bsi at 200-300 quid and programming to engine ecu security code or a bsi/engine ecu/key set, you then remove the blades from the old keys, fit to new keys and fit bsi and ecu, voila should crack up Smile match the numbers from old to new setups and make sure the vans are similar specs

Second hand bsi is doable but generally it's a chip swap from old bsi or someone very very good with electronics as the chip is write once where the security code is stored, hope this helps Smile

If you don't have 4 letter security code you can acquire one for 10$ from your citroen dealer or ebay
It will be calculated from your VIN number.
Then buy second hand BSI from scrapyard and program it with lexia and security code.
Then buy new blank key transponder (PCF) 10$ and program your BSI with new key.

Start your engine  Smile
