New Battery
#1
Nearly nine years on the original battery and winter is looming so, I'm thinking of a replacement to be on the safe side as I don't want to have a dead car during the first snowy morning.

Would you say it is best to use a fully charged new battery and :

A. Just change the thing.

B. Disconnect and leave the car for an hour to re-set the system before fitting the new one.

C. Use a voltage saver plugged in the cigar lighter so that the car doesn't know it's been changed.

D. Any other bright ideas.

I did "A" and nothing bad happened! In fact I've always done "A" on every car I've had.

Oh I see, you're supposed to wait 3 mins for the BSI to go to "sleep". Took me longer than that to work out how to actually get at the battery, so I guess I got away with it. Pretty dumb if the system is that unresilient to just have the power pulled on it!
