struggling to find shims though  - hence my need for the Od loads of shims and kits available out there but i want to know what im looking for before i dismantle as i really cant have this motor off the road for significant time. wife will flip.

Hi, apparently they are 13mm diameter and some Kawasaki motorbike shims are the same, a search on eBay for 13mm valve shims will find them

Parts department didnt know what i was on about when i asked bunch of useless chumps.

no one up here likes fixing cars. They just buy new ones.

Have you thought about reducing the thickness of the shims you have.

It crossed my mind

But I read they are case hardened and thus grinding them in such case wouldn't be clever.

Christy your reading my mind Im looking g at motorbike shims and seeing them much easier to get if you know of . All I'm finding for pugs is 31mm of shims for the 1.5d

The shim sits under the bucket so it isn't really subject to any wear as such, so I wouldn't worry about that.

You can reduce them by hand quite accurately using a piece of wet & dry taped down on a flat surface like a piece of glass   Wink

Ever engine I've ever timed has been np1 cylinder at tdc on inlet strokewith pins in

Haynes makes mention to rotate crank 90 degree with belt aff to put pistons at mid stroke if doing valve clearances
Ordered my belt kit to do this mpnday next week

So what you going to do for the shims?

Do you know what thickness shims that are in there at the moment?

They have to be taken out to measure them. Then a bit of sums & hopefully all is good.

Aye, but once the size of the shims are known, what then?

Car in bits,  dealers don't know what a shim is,  if they manage to figure out what they are, they will have to be ordered in, so that's a day or so waiting time and he doesn't want the car off the road.

Just wondering what the plan was?

I have two plans in motion

I found an acquaintance in a Citroen dealer daaan south who knows where I'm at

He's gonna confirm the od for me and check what their set up for shims in the workshop is

If he confirms the size at least it seems selection boxes of motorbike shims in the required thickness are quite cheap

My utter last resort is to the wet and dry on glass but I'm still nae keen on that
