Anybody replaced/removed their original airbox/filters etc with a K&N air filter on a 1.9d?
My airbox is very rickety and literally held together with cable ties to stop it rocking about. This got me thinking could it just be removed and replaced with a K&N positioned near to the grill? Are there any sensors or wiring that I need to take into consideration?
I know its not going to make any crazy performance gains!!! But the current air filter housing hangs down very low on my van (lower than the sump) and I would like to eliminate this
Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.

I know what you mean as I`ve a similar problem . The only thing is the air mass sensor on the air filter box outlet.

With a 1.9 all you'll gain is more noise ......

^^^ Yes power loss is a distinct possibility !!
A few years back I fitted LPG to a Series Land Rover and initially for test purposes I had a " lash up pipe " leading from the air box to the carb mixer and the engine ran really well ..... later on I replaced the pipe with a cosmetically improved same diameter pipe but the outcome was unexpected ... the engine ran poorly and had a lot less power.
Each pipe was internally ribbed and of differing lengths otherwise exactly the same.
So began a series of tests to find the best combination of pipe type and length and after much fettling and scribbling down of test results I found the optimum. Having Megajolt ignition allowed me to plug in a laptop for live monitoring as I drove around my test circuit / local hills and analyse the data.
So all of the above work just for changing pipe type and length !!! At least if you do swap to K&N it is easily reversible and the filter can be sold on to recoup some of the outlay, personally I'd go to a scrappy and get more of the same in better condition, just my experiences.

But it's a 1.9, will you notice a bit less power
So where does this bit go then ?
