2025 Diesel Ban
#1
Hi all

Just seen on the news that several cities are aiming for a total ban on all diesel vehicles by 2025.

Agreed that some older diesels throw out a lot of muck, and I remember the London smogs of the late 1940s and 1952 especially well, but my 2014 VTR isn't anywhere near those old smokers, so why all the fuss?

I was hoping to get 15 years out of my Berlingo as I only do 8K annual mileage , but as I have to make a trip to central London every Sunday, I'm going to have a problem.  It's very annoying as it was the government which encouraged us to buy diesels a few years ago.

Anyone else got this problem?

Your van uses very cancerous fluid to help keep the emissions down, and if you would care to breath what comes out of the exhaust you would realise it's not so clean after all, emissions tests check for smoke opacity, so if you remove the big particles of soot your van is 'cleaner' but still chucks out a load of pollution, anyone who drives a diesel and thinks otherwise is fooling themselves...

Also if you do 8k a year petrol is cheaper...

Small turbo petrols are way way cleaner and very efficient done right!

Taxis and buses not affected - cars with the same engine as your van, not affected. So far its only commercial vehicles in most cities - this will include vans people buy for other activities other than trade e.g. People who prefer vans for taking their dogs out, someone who likes a van to transport their mountain bikes or like me i have a van because i have a big garden and the van is useful - i dont need a car and im no snob so a flash car would be wasted on me, but i will be penalised just because its a van, looks like i wont be going into the city for a while lol.

^^^ so far yes, but the BBC (et al) Say "The leaders of four major global cities say they will stop the use of all diesel powered cars ..." So that's all Diesel powered vehicles. Confused

As said above, imagine having to bin all the city taxis, buses and delivery vehicles that are in current use Huh

Anpr, every vehicle has it's classification logged.

Will be much the same as the congestion checks. Big fine if you enter with a banned vehicle I would guess.

I imagine that any local authority or public service vehicle such as buses, coaches, black cabs and any HGV over 7.5 tonnes will be permitted to enter cities,  but anyone running a private or light goods diesel will be excluded.  Because of a leg problem I need an automatic, and in 2014 the Blingo auto was only available with a diesel engine.
