Do I understand this correctly.. There are 2 wires to the switch and if you join those wires the reversing lights come on? When you connect the wires to the switch, the lights don't come on when you activate the switch? The switch works fine when tested with a multi meter?
If so, only thing I can add is to try the switch with a 12 volt battery & bulb.

Hiya,
not sure if you have solved this yet ( I have a similar problem) but I have had a similar problem on totally unrelated appliances and just a chance, have you checked the actual voltage going to the reversing lights ? I am sure you will have but it caught me out once when the appliance would switch on by touching the wires together but not via the switch. The voltage was too low to cope with the resistance from the switch.
Hope it helps..
A question for you, where is that switch located as I am having the reversing light problem on my Billy Lingo?
Cheers.
Richard.

thanks i since gave up with it (as it did my head in!) but will be looking again shortly. Wondering if the connector from the loom is just dirty enough for the reverse switch to not make a good connection.
Trickie Dicky thank you, thats a good idea i will check that out aswell!
The switch is located on the gearbox below the battery.
I removed the battery, unbolted the bracket for it and it reveals itself on the gearbox. The side closest to the radiator etc.
Cheers
