Central locking blowing fuse
#1
Hi Guys,

well after ditching my Renault scenic due to the final straw (blown turbo) after lots and lots of electrical faults, I bought a 2003 (53 plate)Berlingo multispace forte 20ltr hdi two days ago which was sold as seen as a trade in.  Yep you get what you pay for a.....  anyway it was all I can afford right now.  Pretty little thing in great all round condition drives wonderful apart from cant get into 5th gear below 50 mph. (Engine seems to labour a bit)  Locked it with remote central locking all fine. Came out in the morning and although the immobiliser lights flash the locks did not work.  Replaced fuse all working ok for several times the fuse blown again.

Any thoughts?   Also speedo stopped registering and headlight leveller not functioning though I am not sure if this was working in the first place but just wanted to give as much information as possible to help you wonderful folks out there helping us old codgers!!

Thanks in anticipation guys.

A few simple and free things to check first ...

Lubricate the locking mechanisms.
Have you got he right fuse ?

5th gear issue ...... begin ownership with a new air and fuel filter and problem may go away.

Sound advice, thanks Geoff.

I have parked up for the Christmas period and don't intend going anywhere for the next 5 days.  I will try your suggestions after the break and let you know how I get on.

Ok so after reading as until my eyelids fail me and my brain turns to goo I finally got of my bum and started to check out the Billy lingo fuse issue.

I disconnected the two front doors one at a time from the wiring via the screw in connectors and tried the central locking.  Blew the fuse.

I then opened the two sliding doors ( I assume they get their power from the copper connectors when the doors are shut?) and tried again.  Blew the fuse.

I then unplugged the tailgate central locking actuator and tried yet again.  Blew the fuse.

So my deduction is it is either the BSI (Fuse board) or a wire going out to any one of the actuators.

Does anyone of you long suffering Berlingo owners have any experience of the BSI unit itself blowing fuses?

Thanks for taking the time to read my woes.
