Fuel Guage wrong
#1
Hiya all... 2005, DW8B 1.9D. lingo.

I have never had a problem with fuel before and mostly fill up around the half way mark on the fuel gauge but I was in a busy period and had to take the fuel gauge lower than I would like. Anyway, I have taken the gauge to the light on a couple of occasions but never gone passed 30 miles on the light before filling up except this last time when the van ran out of fuel just as the light came on and the gauge was still reading 1/8 of a tank, I would have expected 30 miles remaining as I have done it before. I used the manual pump on the fuel filter but there was nothing but air.

Question.. Could there be a hose that has come adrift or has the sender unit gone on the blink ?

Sounds like the sender unit - unless it really bugs you i would just let be and dont let it get so low.

I have never trusted the things anyway not even the computers that say miles to fill. You are asking to get in trouble.

Is the sender unit accessible from inside the load area ? I have had a Google around and removing the fuel tank seems to be the way, if it is I am going to fill up every 250 miles as I know that is around half a tanks worth..

Hi aj yes its a tank off job mate so ideally a ram or pit is needed - well certainly at my age anyway LOL

Having ran out of fuel once I was determined it would never happen to me again.
I now fill right up and refill once the Berlingo had done about 400 miles, on that basis I almost didn't need a guage. Of course a working and accurate guage is ideal but it would save you a lot of work and the cost of the parts.
