Third Gear Crunching

Currently got a 54 plate 2.0 HDi with 100k miles on, shes crunching/grinding third gear, is there anything to try before I fit a replacement gearbox? Also the engine seems to knock when starting up so maybe an engine mount gone not sure if this would cause the crunching? Also the clutch is heavy but from what ive read it seems that's how a berlingo is in general?

Check the mounts 1st as the linkage may be fouling.Do it ASAP before it becomes permanent.The boxes are usually very strong.

The usual gear to fail is 3rd, the sincro goes so hence the crunch. No need to change the box yet just get your revs and road speed right and 3rd will go in without a crunch.

Anyone had the syncro done and know the cost of the repair???
