sliding doors wont open from inside, yet ok from outside
#1
Good afternoon,
This is my first post as only just joined the forum, if this is in the wrong place then please forgive me.
I have a 2004 berlingo multispace 1.9 diesel,  and for some reason I cannot open the sliding doors from the inside. They open perfectly fine using the handle on the outside of the car. I have read many comments on google with people saying the can open from the inside but not the outside! mine has the opposite problem.
I read it is a pin on the inside that could have snapped and leaves the outside handle flapping, this is not the case on my berlingo as my handles are stiff, its the same with both doors.
I have also checked the child locks are not on.

If anyone could assist it would really be helpful as the thought of being in an accident and my children not being able to escape is not a very pleasant one.

Does it have child locks on the rear doors?

Sorry you had said about the child locks in your first post (I must read what is written) It seems strange that both do not work and I don't recall reading about others with this problem on here.

Hi trev I have fixed it.

The passenger side one has a connecting rod that operates the lock , this had slightly slid out of place, it's a notched bar so I used a pair of pliers to remove the rod and slightly bend the rod holder , replaced it and pushed it further back and hey presto it worked!.

The drivers side one was a bit different, someone has been in there before as you could tell from the damage on the door card. Looking at this mechanism the connecting bars were not pulling at all and it appears tge whole system was u/s so I had to go to drastic measures and cut a small rectangle from the door card , there is a large lump of metal that operates the lock , this has now become the new door handle. A lot cheaper and easier than a replacement set but I'm turning it into a mini camper and the interior has not been looked after at all so I've recovered the rear door cards and it looks OK now. Anyway thank you for replying , take care simon

Just a thought on the drivers side rear lock. this has an interlock so the door cannot be opened when you remove the fuel cap. Perhaps some one has tried to force the door when the cap is off so breaking the mechanism. There has been a few threads on here about this problem.
Are we there yet????? Huh
