Hi,

They come as standard along with auto wipers in Citroen's "automatic pack" which I specified to have the dual zone aircon.

To be honest I'd save your money and probably a lot of hassle as I never use the auto light feature. You can see for yourself when it's getting dark and mine always seem to come on too early. The auto wipers are even worse. They seem to come on when not required (and often not when they are !!)

Maybe I need to give mine another try (and clean the windscreen more often!!)

That can be dangerous if there is a junction not far from the tunnel / underpass / flyover.

There's a road  not far from us has an underpass 50 yards or so before a junction and I've witnessed a few near misses where the car waiting at the junction has pulled out in front of the oncoming car thinking it had flashed them out, they must have seen the auto lights turning off as they looked right !

I'd add that mine has daytime running lights, so there's always something on - whether it's dark or light just governs whether one or the other is on.  Perhaps this is why I feel safe about pretty much ignoring whether they're on or not.  Oh, one exception is if it's bright but foggy - then you have to manually switch on.

Yeah, but when a car has it's dipped headlights on and you notice a flash because of a bump or whatever you would be inclined to be that little bit more cautious about it than you would when the car had no lights on and you noticed the flash.

I appreciate what the highway code states with regards to flashing the headlights,  but in the real world people flash headlights to let other vehicles out, and we all act on it, whether that's right or wrong doesn't matter, it happens.... go out on the roads and try driving to the letter of the highway code and see how far you don't get !

Yes,  if someone pulls out it's their fault, but that's not much consolation to you when the front of your car is smashed in thanks to your Auto lights now is it.

Auto Lights are an unnecessary accessory, and in reality they are just another dumbing down of driving, if you're in charge of a vehicle on the road where you will be mixing with other people doing the same I would like to think that the vehicle coming towards me is being controlled by a person who has enough common sense to know when it's dark and turn their lights on.

Don't get me started about daytime running lights and the super bright lights the manufactures now think we need on vehicles.  Angry

All above does not answer original question!
As the upgrade is a factory fit not dealer, then it probably not a simple upgrade to the cars brain, unlike cruise. I don't think non fitted cars have the sensors in the screen, but i could be wrong.... PSA probably have one screen that fits all, cost etc. ?

I think the glass screen can be the same, but the sensor is not installed... A sensor, conected to the BSI and a new stalk, and some BSi software tinkering, and it would be upgraded...

True...... but sometimes that's how things go, and you never know someone that is considering paying for the Auto Lights option pack may read the above and decide they're not worth the bother.

Back to the question in hand.....

No one ever said or implied that the Auto lights function flashed the lights as you have described, you've made that bit up.

It's the turning off of the Auto Lights  after leaving the tunnel / underpass that is the problem ... If the Auto lights happen to be turning off just as some sitting at a junction looks towards the car it could be mistaken for a flash.

Maybe you don't agree, that's up to you, but I've seen it happen on more than one occasion at a junction and also coming out of a motorway underpass, so I thought it was a reasonable point to mention.

You know fine well the point I'm making, but you're going out of your way to be pedantic.

My car has the Auto Lights feature, needless to say the function is turned off.
