Kenwood head unit switching off
#1
Hi.
Just spent the last few days wiring replacing the head unit in my Berlingo Enterprise 2015.
I put in a double din Kenwood DNX1650DAB and an amp, new speakers and reversing camera.
Connected it all up today and it worked fine, the amp functioned, speakers working, all except for the reversing camera, nothing happened when I put it in reverse. I haven't started to figure that out yet.

But the big problem I have is that as soon I started to drive away (about 100 yards) the head unit turned off and now I can't bring it on again. A small triangle light blinks on the unit which means (according the manual) that the vehicle ignition is off. Even though the ignition is on.

I'm using the ControlPRO CP2-PSA52 steering wheel interface which I am assured is the correct one.

Talk about a let down Sad

This sounds like a loose wire possibly the key live, you must have a live and earth for the triangle to light up.
A common problem with after market stereo is that the key live and permanent live get swapped, it's worth checking this. Also some stereos require a canbus adapter when fitted to modern vehicles.
I'm not a expert but have fitted all of my own over the years.
Good luck.

I've just checked the quadlock socket in the van with a volt meter and I'm not convinced that the can bus adaptor I've got is compatible even though it says it is. The pink wire seems to be the permanent battery feed and this lines up with the battery feed for the head unit. A white wire in the socket is the switched ignition feed but this lines up with a wire labelled as dimmer in the Kenwood manual..... Actually this might also explain why the reversing camera didn't work.

Dimmer is to dim the display on the stereo when you put the lights on. What you have sounds wrong to me.

Hi Mark
Not as yet, thanks for asking. Going to call my local Car Audio shop tomorrow and see if they have an alternative CAN bus adaptor and stalk control. Alternatively I will try and find the dimmer wire from the vans quadlock socket and match it with the dimmer wire at the head unit.

I got the connects2 CAN adaptor and steering wheel control. It works really well. You can even adjust the clock from the stalk control. But now the reversing sensors don't beep.

Glad you are making good progress, I believe there is a version on the canbus adapter or a add-on that allows the reverse bleeps to work I think it is also made by connects2
Is this what you need ?

I fitted the reversing adaptor today but it didn't help. Still no beeps. Camera fitted to the head unit works fine. The display on the orange dash screen works and shows the proximity lines but there's no beeping. I had a tow bar fitted a couple of months ago and the engineer said something about the reversing sensors and something I would have to do if I disconnected the battery. Stupidly I can't remember what he said.
