[Brakes] Abs light on
#1
2009 xtr 1.6hdi, so my abs light was coming on very intermittent could be once a month or once every 2 months but now has come on and stayed on. Is it because it's booked in for mot next week!
So I can't see anything obvious don't have a code reader but if it's a wheel sensor seems a strange pattern I would expect it to fail and stay so.
Anybody else had similar, or could it be brake light switch or fluid level sensor?

You have two choices
#1 Get diagnostic machine on it and replace faulty parts

#2 Play parts roulette and keep replacing things til you stumble on the faulty component
HINT #1 is usually cheaper in the long run

I've got the same thing at the moment

The reason it can be intermittent is because the abs only starts working above a particular speed and it is only detected that there is a fault when that speed is reached

Have you noticed at slower speeds when braking, the peddle feels like it is going up and down. This means the abs is activating before it should do.

When I read my fault code it says it's the front right side wheel sensor (drivers side in the UK), which I intend to change myself as it is a very easy job.
One screw to hold the sensor and two pull out clips and the plug connection

No pedal pulsing but light is on all the time now, just had a diagnosis code c1385 shows a abs relay, anybody know where it is or have a picture?

So update on abs, changed the relay today and light has gone out, so fingers crossed sorted.

Excellent news but where is the ABS relay situated? Is it just a standard electrical relay or the actual ABS module including hydraulics?

On my 2009 model it's not part of the abs module . Car isn't here at present, but if I remember rightly the relay is front left side behind headlamp area. Plenty of pictures of relay using a google image search.
With reference to the above, I have just cleared a fault where the pedal was pulsing at low road speed and abs light coming on intermittently. I cleaned up the wheel area where the probe is, and cleaned the connector plug between the abs sensor lead and the car harness. This is under the wheel arch tucked in behind the plastic inner. This is the second time poor connections have given me abs problems, so basic wiring checks are always worthwhile.

The type of abs probe on 09 model is based on a magnet(s) built into the wheel bearing, not the old style toothed wheel system and operates at lower road speeds. Knackered wheel bearing could upset system.

It's mounted on the front of the fuse box in engine compartment held in place by plastic expanding rivet. There is another relay bolted on higher up but I believe this is the glow plug relay.
I have attached a picture of the abs relay
