After Market Security
#1
Having some very strange problems with my central locking and alarm.
1. Horn blowing once every few mins when door or bonnet open.
2. Horn blowing once every few min's after locking van (with key or fob)
3. Horn not working when steering pressed.
4. (now) Horn blowing constantly when I open the van with key or fob.

I have looked at and cleaned the horn connection behind air bag. Horn still didn't work normally.
I have tried every combination of locking and unlocking the van but still had the horn beeping once every few min's.
I have done a BSI reset last night and not its the constant horn after opening van.

I have found a sticker in the back of the van from a Vehicle Security company and I'm wondering if there is some after market extra security that has been added.

Where would I look for control boxes or the like to differentiate between standard Citroen alarm and any added stuff.

Its doing my head in and I have talked to a dealer who want €160 + Vat  (2 hours) labour just to plug the van in. I have had it plugged in to a ODB reader but there are no faults. Cheap reader so dont know how reliable that would be.

Any advice from the technically minded here would be appreciated.

It sounds very much like an after market alarm they usually hide the control box behind the dash or glove box. The horn beeping sounds like its registering a problem on a sensor or something. You could try ringing the company on the sticker to see if they have any info on your van. Try an auto electrician for a better price and more knowledge of electrical problems. If you can find the alarm module get all the info off it and do a search on google to look up maker and possible instructions.

I have looked at the company that was on the sticker and they have a very rough website ! http://www.cviltd.co.uk/
They also do Roof racks and Ply Lining so maybe that's all they done on this van.

I Have had the glove box out because of big hands syndrome and couldn't get to the fuses !, didn't see anything out of place there. Also had some of the dash panels off to fix switches and haven't see anything there either.

I now thinking it may be something to do a botched job done on the drivers door, looks like there was a new barrel put on it and my key blade is loose and it looks like the original fob was fitted (badly) with a new blade. Just noticed this cause the key wouldn't open the passengers door.
I'd say its had a new (or 2nd hand) ignition, door barrel and key blade. Could be something dodgy in the door ?.

Unfortunately I think I'll have to get someone with the software to check everything for me.

Have you tried to contact the previous owner?

Ya but it was the owner before that who I can't contact that made the modifications. If there was mods. I knew the fella that owned it before me and I don't think he ever locked the doors !.

It could be damage to the central lock on that door if you suspect its been replaced have a look at the wiring and follow it back to where it passes from door to body as it can fray or break in its trunking. For diagnostics have a search on here for a member near you with diagbox/lexia software who could help or jump over to French car forum as they have a map of members with the relevant software who could help..
Just one thing is there a push switch mounted under the bonnet that activates when you raise the bonnet, and if yes is it intact and working correctly.

I'm in Ireland and I know there is a fella about 60 miles from me who has diagbox/lexia.
I also have a mate who may have it but I can't contact him today. I have to replace some broken door card clips Monday so I'll take it off and have a look for damage.

Bonnet catch is broken too (the plastic bit), so it could well be that the push switch is broken or not there too.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look in to all of them.

If the bonnet switch is broken off that could be your problem as it is not being pushed down to complete the circuit the alarm thinks its open. Is it something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Car-...SwLEtYmy2i
Remove it and press whats left down and see if the alarm behaves. You can get another switch from a motor factors or car shop.

Well, the strangest thing happened !!!

After doing the BSI reset the horn was blowing constant when I opened the van doors with the fob or key.

I got slightly mad and hit the horn (steering wheel) like I wanted to kill it !, I did, The horn now works and the key fob and Key are opening the van as they should.

This doesn't really help anyone else in the same position, I have no idea why is working again but I'm glad it saved me a visit to the dealer.

Thanks for all the reply's.

Hope I haven't Jinxed it now.
