[Engine] Ignition lock removal
#1
Hi all, new here. I have had my 1.6Hdi van for about 6 yrs it's covered 93k with few issues. The door locks have almost all started spinning instead of unlocking, the ignition lock has become very stiff to turn.

So not wanting unmatching locks, I am thinking of replacing all 5 door locks and the ignition lock. I have removed the steering column cowling and small screw from the back of the lock barrel. This is where I'm stuck, I can't move the barrel out,

having looked around there may be a pin to push in?

I have found a likely pin and 2 small holes. The holes are towards the bottom of the barrel on the underside. The pin looks like it's hardened and lines up with the D mark on the barrel but does seem to move slightly when the lock is operated. I have tried pushing it in while moving the key about but to a avail. Can someone confirm I'm pushing the right pin in the right direction and indicate how much force should be required?

The pic attached is taken from above the steering column.

As a side issue, I was having intermittent issues with the central locking remote upon investigation, it turned out a cheap led light plugged into the 12v accessory socket was backfeeding 12v to the van when the ignition was off this left the battery light on on the dash and prevented the central locking working by remote. Easy once you know!

Any advice is appreciated

Dave

Hi John,

I have WD'd it several times but the tightness seems to return, I'm guessing the key and possibly lock is worn and perhaps everything isn't lining up as it should?
