A few things to check 2.0hdi 2001 berlingo...
#1
so been running the van for a few weeks and getting to grips with its little characteristics  Wink

The MIL code light came on but it didn't seem to change the runnng. I used my phone based odb2 reader and had P0903. I cancelled this and today the mil code light came up again and it seemed to restrict performance for a few seconds but it seemed to go back to as it was. I checked with a pc based reader autocom odb2 and it had listed 4 codes but they could be old ones P1517, P0101, P1521 and P0401. I have cleared them all and will see what comes back. Power doesn't seem to be huge but not expected to be but one of the checks associated with P0101 and P0401 are split turbo hoses... question is how easy are they to see and check? If anyone has any other advice it would be appreciated.

Thanks

The codes appear to be related to the amount of air ( flow ) going into the engine so starting at the turbo work backward towards the air filter and look for any damage, splits, poor connections and joints on all pipes. A poor joint or a split will allow air to leak at this point causing a lesser flow past the MAF sensor, the sensor will think there isn't enough air going into the engine and adjusts fueling accordingly.
Personally for the work involved I'd remove all the pipe / ducting for a close inspection so when it goes back together you are then confident it is good.
There are other issues associated but start simple to begin with, a clean air filter is a good start of course.

Thanks for the reply very much appreciated.  Just out of interest do you know if the turbo shield has to be removed?

Thanks

I wouldn't have thought so, doesn't need to be on a 1.6

Ooooo just checked the manual again and I finally found the turbo and pipework in the manual... I do hope it's not a split rigid pipe because the manual states it's an engine out job.

Ok so a quick update...  it was an hour well spent..

First of all I found that the heater matrix water pipe was resting on the egr valve housing and had nearly worn through so that is another job to be done soon. A quick wrap with some amalgamation tape for now...

Couldn't find any inlet leaks although couldn't check the turbo end due to lack of access. The air filter was ok however the MAF housing had lots of little leaves in it. So a quick blow out with the air line and a squirt with the contact cleaner seems to have done the job. Codes haven't come back 'yet' and now I get torque when the turbo kicks in so happy days...

However.... it is clear that although only 63k on the clock the guy before just drove it and didn't fix anything that broke unless he had to. All 3 door locks now don't work with the last (drivers door) failing yesterday so looks like that is the next job. I don't want to keep throwing money at it but these little jobs do need doing. The right way would be 3 door locks an ignition switch and a fuel cap but that lot will probably double the value of the van. Anyone got any recommendations about where to get the locks because prices and I guess quality does seem to vary...
