New rear Axle beam
#1
Sad
I've got an 08 plate 1.6HDi and recently started hearing a loud knocking from the rear of the vehicle. I've taken it to a garage and they have told me that the rear axle beam is knackard and needs replacing. They have said I need the axle beam including the radius arms. the van has done about 112,000 miles. Is this a common problem?
They have said the parts brand new are expensive and have said I should look for a second hand part. My concern is if I buy a second hand axle beam the same problem could occur. What would people recommend is the best option?

Dont buy a secondhand axle you don't know what you are getting, A few on here have used IM axles for a reconditioned unit with good results.
Are we there yet????? Huh

You'll need to swap over your brakes from the old axle to the new one so this would be a good time to examine and replace worn braking components and also look at the brake pipes. I'd consider any flexi pipes to be consumables and would replace these regardless.

If all the brake pipe's and the slave cylinder's are OK you can move it out of the way when you take the back plate's off just leave them on the back plate's then you don't need to bleed the brakes as the other's said get a recon axil .

I would recommend the recon axle from IM axles on eBay.
Both my rear flexible brake hoses were really shot, they were not picked up before as they are quit hard to see normally .
Hardest bit was bleeding the brakes afterwards.
It is a diy job to fit if you have all the tools including a decent puller to get the rear hubs off the stub axles.
