WHO invented that stupid bloody nut to get the spare wheel out the car with a hook on the end of a wheelbrace? what an idiotic way to get ya spare out, av gave up tonight, i have a flat luckily in my driveway, its pitch black, my lamp dont work and to top it off i cant get the nut off to save my life, the designer of said nut needs a kick up the hole, am furious and am leaving it till the weekend when i can actually spend time in daylight to see how big a hammer am gonna need!

Rant over!:brickwall:

Anyways, i hope you all had a pleasant day!Big Grin

Ha ha! I welded a 17mm nut to the top of mine so it fits the berlingo wheel brace Big Grin

Think yourself lucky. I have the anti-theft device too - basically a BFO bolt going through the boot floor into a threaded plate fixed to the spare. Needs a 19mm spanner/socket. Judging by the struggle the tow-bar fitter had refitting it I won't be wanting to do that in the dark and rain :-(

After gaining a nail and losing a tyre during the first week of ownership, I rapidly found out what a s**t idea the spare wheel carrier nut is.... First job was to remove it completely, clean up the threads on the bolt and the hook, apply anti-seize compound and refit. Not got round to "modding" to fit 17mm hex yet...

I also had to do the copperslip thing, it took the heat from a blowlamp and a lot of swearing and sweating to get it off to start with, well designed Citroen........ Big Grin

Glad to have that info. Will have a look at mine this weekend and get out the can of WD-40. Is copper-slip a better anti-sieze compound? I've never heard of it but it sounds like I should look into it.

Yes, you can get it in little tubes for a few quid or a big tub for around 7 quid.

I've been using it for about 35 years now, used to use it a lot when I worked in the coal industry. The environment where some of the plant vehicle worked was quite often wet and corrosive and it always seemed to do the trick.

A little tip, if you do buy a tin, sometimes it needs a little drop of oil adding to thin it down as the oils seem to drop out of suspense in the mix. I use a small container like an old film cannister or similar and keep it topped up from the main tin...

The mk3 has a nut that fits the wheelbrace. The mk2 has the slot.
