2002 1.4 berlingo heater issue
#21
Getting warm here in Ireland as Summer approaches, about as warm as your winter! The type of plastic used on the fittings will often respond well to mending. If you have a clean soldering iron you can, with no water around, groove out the crack and then feed a strip of plastic (the bit that holds a strip of Rawlplugs together melts well) as you re-melt the groove with your iron. Make the joint twice as thick as the original.
A bodge, but can last for years!
When my wife's heater packed up I bought her a hot water bottle - it's a good way to seal a relationship, a thoughtful gift, so I'm told. The hospital food wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...

Not to throw spanners to the works, but if the plastc coupling for the heater matrix has a crack then there is a slim chance that the gasket too is gone. Again, I dont think that plastic is replaceable. Even if its available, is the process of fitting the hoses to to the plastic reproducible to a high degree of integrity by diy? - Probably not that easy. Would moot for brand new complete hose with plastic or sealing off the crack using molten plastic

Thankyou for your reply
Lol your comments..

Plastic welding would be a great option but fortunately I found one just waiting for it to arrive.

Can it not be repaired?

Could you not extend the rubber hoses and connect them straight to the heater matrix and take the plastic elbow out?

.

Thankyou for your reply

It is mentioned on the first page. There is a crack on the elbow.

My mistake, yes you mentioned it's cracked in post #7 which I missed.

Can the plastic elbow not be repaired with something like JB weld?

Could you not extend the rubber hoses and connect them straight to the heater matrix and take the plastic elbow out?

Thankyou for your reply

Was going to do that but would then not be able to bleed the matrix. I have now found a replacement and waiting for it to arrive. Once again thankyou for your help
