Cruise Control differences
#1
Hi,

2014 Partner Tepee (bought January 2014 so probably a 2013 or whenever the last model change was). According to the brochure of that time, the Cruise control option was 'Cruise Control with Speed Limiter'. So, I spotted a Cruise Control stalk with Speed Limiter on the forum and I bought it.

I know nothing about the electronics so decided to go to the main dealer to get them to fit and activate it. According to them, they can only install the Cruise Control without the Speed Limiter - so we agreed to disagree and not get them to fit the item.

What I'd like to know is, can the stalk that I have be fitted and work with my Tepee even if it doesn't have the Speed Limiter wiring/settings? I'm assuming I can get the stalk fitted and it will allow the cruise control to work (once it is activated in the ECU/BSI).

If the ECU has speed limiter options, I'll ask to have them activated as well and see if it works, but I'm mainly wanting the Cruise Control to work and need to know if fitting this stalk will work or if it will cause issues (I'm not wanting issues).

Thanks.

Forgot to ask!

Does the ECU have any code or passcode-type thing that needs entered to allow access and activation of settings?

If so, how/where do I find those?

Thanks.

Yes. I did exactly what you want to do on my 2011 tepee. Speed limiter will not function without a new pedal box. Get the stalk fitted, i used perminant marker to delete the speed limiter symbol from the stalk just incase and noted in manual (for info of the next owner)

Nice one, thanks. So the stalk will work with Cruise Control, excellent.

Does the ECU need any code or password to allow access and setting it?

Cheers.

PS. Your dealer was right. I was charged £160 i think, for supply of stalk, fitting and programming of ECU, but that was 5 years ago now. Money well spent in my opinion, imagine what could go wrong if you do it wrong, medling with ECU is not to be advised!

Agreed, which is why I was asking the main dealer to activate it. When I went in to the dealer to chat before the stalk arrived, I'd said it had Cruise and Limit on it; the mechanic said it would fit but the Limit may not work - to which I said I'd be more than happy with just Cruise, but the stalk was cheap so I bought it. Mechanic said it would probably fit, but when I called back to confirm the part number (which apparently doesn't exist!), he then told me that he was only allowed to fit a stalk with only cruise control on it so they couldn't fit this one.

So main dealer isn't wanting the work due to whatever ruling they have been given (which is fair enough, they probably don't want any 'old' cruise control getting jammed in there and would prefer the safer (and more sensible approach) of using official parts), so I need to find another local garage who can do electrics. However, before I contact them, I'd like to know if the ECU has any passcodes to access it as if so, I'll need to get those so that the garage can access and activate the setting.

There is no passcodes to enter the configuration for your car.

I have done the same as you, bought a cruise/speed limiter stalk from ebay for a few quid and fitted the stalk myself.
I had previously bought the Lexia/Diagbox which I used to activate the cruise control.
As mentioned in a previous post, the speed limiter doesn't work because it would need a new accelerator peddle fitted at about £110 for the part.
Even though the speed limiter doesn't work, the cruise control works perfectly.

I think the reason for your main dealer turning down the work is due to a stipulation from Citroen themselves.
There is a 'kit' available for fitting with part number 16097645 80 and the documentation that comes with the kit states this:-

"Before offering to sell a customer an above specification cruise control kit it is ESSENTIAL to read the sheet "CustomerReception_CruiseControlCertificate" which you will find by clicking on the icon (Additional documentation), this indicates the COMPULSORY PREREQUISITES linked with the vehicle and requiring the customer’s agreement.
Therefore, any offer to fit an electronic cruise control system in after sales, other than this kit and regardless of its origin, is PROHIBITED."

The last line is obviously Citroen prohibiting the fitment of a cruise control stalk that is not the previously mentioned 'kit'

Another line says this (In BOLD as well):-
"IF A CRUISE CONTROL KIT IS SOLD OVER THE COUNTER, WITHOUT INSTALLATION ON SITE BY THE NETWORK, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE CUSTOMER SIGNS THE WAIVER, which you will find by clicking on the icon (Attached document), AND AT THE SAME TIME IS GIVEN THE CORRESPONDING FITTING INSTRUCTIONS IN HIS LANGUAGE."

The waiver is so that if it the kit is not fitted by the dealer and something goes wrong, the dealer and Citroen are not liable.

Brajomobil is probably the best person to comment on cruise control, but theres plenty of reading here and elsewhere on the subject.

There was a stalk with just cruise, but i was told no longer available. I watched the mechanic do the ECU via a lap top type device. Need to know a little french to program the correct function. It looks easy if you know what to do! There is a long long thread on this subject on this forum, need a Lexus? Device. Try another dealer and speak to a mechanic not the jobsworths/student  behind the desks. It is easy job, but i could see why they don't want to do it, hence reason why i deleted function from the stalk and put note in hand book. Especially as mot nye on says everything fitted as standard must work, or so it seems.
