HEATER BLOWER PROBLEM
#1
Hello amazing berlingo family, i am glad i found you!!

Model 2005 MK2 1.6 16v petrol multyspace with aircon

i just bought the car and mechanically and visibly  is sound(hopefully) with loads of service history and 110k on the clock.

The problem is located on the heater blower.

when it works : works on all settings but if put on high setting and heat it cuts out after 2 minutes (i didn't try to let it run on cold), then it wont work for a day or so.
for example last night stoped working and it came on this afternoon, it worked fine for an hour, i came back home did some research took out the air filter gave it a good shake and then start the engine, the fan was working fine, i then set it on high and hot, it cut out after 2 min, and it won't come on again.

ps1. the fan will work only when engine is on. i though that this seams strange as in other cars you can run the blower before engine is on . (btw all other electrics work fine)
ps2. there is a stale small in the air vent system(like a classroom smells with 20 people and closed windows) garlicy.

i have read all the threads on this forum about similar problems with the heater blower and the only suggestion that came close it was the one that suggests, that air filter is blocked and over heats something after a while.

this is all my observations

 i would appreciate any help
thank you vary much in advance !!!

When you say air filter do you mean the cabin filter up under the passenger footwell or the air filter on the engine. The smell is probably a blocked manky cabin filter.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Try running without the filter?

Could your fan problems be with the heater resistor pack or could it be somehow wired (through the fuses) to the timer that works the battery saving shut down mode ? (Or whatever its called)

I think the smell is the resistor pack burning out, it has to be sloted in to the unit so it's in the airflow to cool it.

Did you fix this? I have a 2003 Multispace with A/C. The heater blower was full speed regardless of the control knob when engine was running. Turned out the blower on A/C models has a transistor controlled module on the fan. I believe it does not have the normal resistor pack. On the module is a relay, which is energised when the control knob is in the top speed (3?). Perhaps it is this relay causing your problem.
In my case one of the power transistors had gone collector emitter short circuit. Changing the faulty transistor got the fan working properly again.
