Essential maintenance schedules
#1
I know I haven't had my van long but it is my first and I'm a little green on this side of the fence. it has 36k on the clock
What are the problems to look out for, essentially parts that are prone to failure e.g. Timing Belts etc.
Can you provide me with a list and a tentative mileage indication as to what point to have these parts checked or changed before they lead to an even greater problem
Thanks you and as always your replies are appreciated
Regards
C

You need to specify which Mark of vehicle you have BigC e.g B49, B9 etc. Mark 2 can need a cambelt at 75,000 miles, but a Mark 3 (like mine) I changed it at 120,000 miles. Mark 2 needs oil and filter change at 12,500 miles, but Mark 3 at 16,000, though I change mine every 14,000 miles, cos I do mostly motorway miles.

Okay C a 2015 diesel 1.6hdi is a very good engine, so is the rest of the vehicle. At 36k you are due a big service - air, fuel, pollen filters and oil and filter of course. Cam belt 150k or 10 years but sooner better say 100k. If you can dont stretch the oil and filter to the recommended service intervals, say reduce by 50% so every 7k would be very good.

Other than that at 36k have a good look at the front brake pads. Cant think of anything else Big C to be honest.

Big C, I have a 15 reg 1.6HDi 90hp van, I do mainly high speed motorway miles as a courier, but this is the servicing schedule I use on this van:

Engine Oil and filter changed every 14,000 miles
Fuel and Air filters changed every 35,000 miles
Gearbox Oil changed every 30,000 miles
I changed my front disk pads for the first time at 85,000 miles (but I do mainly motorway driving now). When doing more urban type work, my front pads would last 65,000 miles. Rear pads are good for well over 200,000 miles.
Change your cambelt at 120,000, as I know of a courier who wrecked the engine of his Ford Connect at 150,000 miles (same engine as Berlingo).

The oil should be changed annually or 12,000 Miles. Never ever believe dealers long life schedules. They don't care what happens to your engine post-3rd year.

find someone who does what i do, get it done before an oil change, enjoy the restored BHP better MPG and lower emissions,
