hi the temperature guage on my 57 plate van worked fine till i top up the coolent on now it runs below 70 when idle it goes up 80 then back down to below 70

Sounds as though the thermostat is failing and sticking - rather than opening and closing progressively . Does the cooling fan start running after idling for a while?
