1din upto 2din upg on 53' 1.9d MS desire

Hiya peeps

Has anyone ever attempted an upgrade from the single 1 din radio unit to a double sized 2 din unit ever?

Or has anyone put in a double din'er (lol Smile ) into another position with the Column - maybe down in the well at the bottom near to the chargers ???

I'm trying to save money on still maintaining 6-7" screen for multi display of calls, satanic, rear cams etc but trying to avoid having to fork out the premium for having a pull out large screen for a single din head unit, the double din versions can be over half price of singles!!!

Any advice such projects would be gladly received Smile

I dont see how it would ever fit in the original place. So if you insist on a 2 din radio (instead of a 1 din pull out screen) then I would try to make something in the space near the chargers.

I would make a plywood box wich would fit under the overhang. Give it a slight angle so you have a good view at the display without the sun blocking the view.

Enough room too even keep the cupholders. The wiring and antenna may need to be extended a bit though.

Yep that or some nicely cut and bent steel/ally - if I was feeling adventurous I could try cutting it to fit the unit to slide into under its own grasp!!!

Could use steel, I wouldnt as it will be harder to work with, a lot harder to make it blend in and attatch to the dashboard.
