1.9 non turbo
#1
I've just got back to berlingo ownership after my previous 2.0hdi blowing the hg a few months ago. I've bought a 1.9 non turbo van on an 06 plate. It's done 145000 miles and was cheap. It needs tyres, but I have a set of suitable alloys with near new tyres lying to go straight on. The back axle looks ok, I hope it is, I replaced the axle on the last one, don't really want to do it again. It is going to be used as a work hack, doing maybe 200 miles a week for work. I have access to cheap veggie il and wondering if this engine will run on it. I'm asking before I try it, as don't want to shove it in and then find out it doesn't work and end up knackering fuel pump or injectors or anything. Thanks in advance, Davie.

Hiya, welcome back to the simpler side of life...

As far as I am aware the Lucas pump does not like anything other than refined petro chemicals so veggi or other oils are a deffo no no.. Few of the DW8B engines had the Bosh pump and they will run on sand.. Wink..

Why not chuck a gasket in the HDI ?

Because it also had a leaking modutop so I sold it for spares/repairs. It has a new mot and tax so must be fixed and going again. I thought that if I took the head off I would need it skimmed, a new timing belt, tensioner and water pump so it was counting up. I then decided that I wanted the simplest possible engine hence the 1.9 dw8. I'm not worried that it will be heavier on fuel, and van or car makes no difference, in fact a van is better as my other car is not that practical for getting stuff in it, it's a pug 407 coupe, has a huge boot but such a small lid you can't get anything in it!
