just wondering if the fronts struts off a 97-2002 mk1 1.9d will fit a 2006 1.9d?

I don't know if they do but you can search online for Mk1 struts and then for mk2 and compare the part nos.

I'd be amazed if they are different / don't fit ( apart from perhaps a minor internal change to accomodate perhaps a subtle change in damping characteristics ).

Many eBay sellers reckon they swap over / are universal.

Yes they do Only thing that may be slightly different is spring rates depending on engine weight, i.e. 2.0hdi will be stronger springs than a 1.4tu
