Please could some tell where the engine number is on a 2004 1.9D

Don't know, but Haynes says on a plate on the front of the cylinder block (XUD) or stamped on the cylinder block to the left of the oil filter/cooler (DW).

If you follow the dipstick tube downwards and look behind it there is a number dot etched into the surface of the block - about 4 inches down from the top of the dipstick tube. You'll need a torch to see/read it. If you think that the whole power train has been swapped out then look at the wishbones where they meet the suspension struts to see if the bolts have been disturbed - they'll normally be covered in road muck if undisturbed.
