2006 Berlingo Multispace Desire vs Alpine CDE-193BT
#1
Hi there,

I'm having some problems with an Alpine Stereo I got installed by Halfords. It was a complete nightmare with them so in the end I gave up.

Basically, when I start the car, the radio doesn't remember any of my settings (saved radio stations, paired Bluetooth devices, etc) and I need to set everything up every time I start the car.

Another problem I'm having is that the built-in screen that displays the time and date and tells you stuff like "Front left door open" is stuck. When I start the car the time shown is correct, but it then just stays and does not show the current time. It's strange because the car "knows" the time when I start it every time but not when it's on... so if I start the car and it says 14:21 and I drive for 2 hours, the time is stuck in 14:21 until I switch off the car.

The stereo model is Alpine CDE-193BThttp://www.halfords.com/technology/car-a...-bluetooth

I just want to know if any of you have had a similar problem. I think it's got to do with the wiring because at the beginning the stereo would remember my settings, it was when Halfords were trying to "fix" the problem with the built-in screen that they made everything worse.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Alex

Hi Alex welcome to the forum, You need have not got a permanent live to the radio just an ignition live. It can be fixed by swapping around wires in the plug or get the correct patch lead. Same goes for the centre display. Have a search on the forum there is loads about your problem.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Hi Tomcat3 and mendemizo,

Thanks a lot for getting back and for your suggestions. I'll have a look and see how it goes.

I've also been told that installing a can-bus interface would probably fix all that, so I'm also looking into that Smile

I'll report how it goes!

Cheers

Hi, I think you have to swap the yellow and red wires on the radio end of the loom, I think red is permanent (memory) and yellow is accessory, the alpine wiring allows you to swap over without tools or connectors(push in bullet connectors).

Of course halfrauds tech knew this! And charged you for fitting so up to them to put right. I'm a great believer in the "if you want something done properly" addage.

Maybe I'm old but most halfrauds fit for you people look not old enough to own their own car.
