Hi just bought my 1.6hdI 2011 berlingo van a few weeks ago. Just wanted to check out a noise that I have on it to make sure there's nothing major wrong. It's an intermittent noise that happens when you turn the ignitition off and for approx 1 Min - 1.5min it makes a sort of whining/droning noise( quite loud, a bit like a pump) from the top of the engine that just gradually fades away. I only travel around 5 miles to work and there doesn't seem to be any pattern as to when it happens. Thanks fo any help

Occasionally mine will emit some sounds from under the bonnet after turning off the engine. Not particularly loud but can be heard if standing next to the car. Sounds to me like gas under pressure flowing thru a small pipe. It too peters out after a moment or two. I've never worried about it. Doesn't throw error codes and everything has always been found to be fine at normal maintenance appointments.

There's a vacuum pump on the 2.0 engine for the EGR and other things, maybe the same thing on the 1.6?
