Berlingo Mk2 driver seat - backache anyone?

Well Im a southwest fairy but my MK2 van (o7) never gave trouble.
My current MK3 van is very firm but fully supportive.
I can do Hereford to my sisters in Sommerset in one 3hr hit and get out as if Id just popped out to the corner shop.

Never had a problem. I've just done 800 miles in 2 days.

The worst seat ever.
Been looking into changing them.
The only one I can find is a 405 that may fit easily.

I have tried looking at 406, picaso, focus with no luck yet.
Will get there one day.

Might seem like an odd question but does the clutch on the Multispace 2017 have to be depressed fully to change gear? I accidentally only slightly depressed it and the gear changed with no problem. ie no crunching sound. Not sure if it could damage the mechanism though. Trying to find ways to stop sciatica and hip pain. Many thanks for any advice......... Chrissie

Hi Brendan , I find a lot of car seats make my back ache and the Berlngo seat back is very hard . I use one of these cushions as a back rest in every car I drive ,it does the trick for me .

Dipping the clutch rather than fully depressing the pedal is an old method and works / doesn't cause vehicle issues so give it a go and if it suits you then all the better for your body.

When I had a 1.9D I found pointing the foot forward when depressing the pedal less troublesome than having the foot arching backwards, a 1.9 has a much heavier clutch than the 1.6Hdi I have now but I still continue with the same foot pointing method, works for my back.

The earlier Berlingo seats were simply dreadful after the miles went on them and only mediocre before that.
The later models 07 onwards had much improved seats !

Fitting different seats isn't so easy as generally you need to make adaptive bracketry to accomodate them.

The advantage of doing this work is you can move the drivers seat further to the left in order to get it much more in line with the steering wheel and pedals, similarly with raising the seat height.
I did this and found it to be well worth the effort ! The degree of wheel and pedal offset to the steering wheel becomes more pronounced when your back or hips develop issues.

Another " mod " I did was to fix a larger clutch pedal plate that protruded further to the left and down a little this made pedal pushing easier. Initially as an experiment I rivetted a plate on and when fully happy with its shape and size I welded it firmly in place.

Seat alterations etc will of course potentially affect your insurance and would be classed as a modification so check with an insurer before doing the work, if you had a bump without disclosure they have the excuse for not paying out which could be scary if there was a third party involved and claiming for injury !!
All insurance is based on " good faith " which effectively means there is a one way street in the direction of the insurers.

I find the driver seat in my 2003 van great, its soft and comfortable but still provides enough support.

Its not a perfect fit though, the steeringwheel is a bit too far away. I can lower the steeringwheel but then it catches on my knees. Also the seat cant be adjusted in height.
