[Steering & Suspension] power steering whine
#1
2016 Berlingo XTR 1.6 BlueHDI

When stationary, motor running and turning the wheel I hear a whining sound. The same sound can be heard when driving, usually constant, but varies a bit by rev. Sometimes under driving the whine disappear, but ususally it's there

I know whining sounds from power steering  are quite common, but until now it's been completely silent and I would prefer it not to be any whine, of course

It's been running 15 000 km (the car is about 8 months old)

The pump is electric according to a car mechanic I talked  to so this can't be any belt noise. See attached photo. The black cap is the filling cap for fluid.

I checked the oil level and it was actually about 2 cm above max when engine was cold and not recently driven. I haven't added any fluid, it is like that from the factory

(if I have checked correctly, I pull the stick, dry off and put  it down again and screw it completely on, maybe I should not screw it on to get the correct level

The car is of course under warranty and I will complain to my dealer.

Is this something I should be worried about

If it varies with revs it could well be belt noise, after all the belt drives the alternator, which runs the pump via electricity generated... turn the wheel and the motor draws more current loading alt and belt up more, I'm not saying it is that but to rule it out isn't quite right Wink
