What do the beeping sounds / alarms mean please
#1
Hi folks, this question relates to a 2004 1.9d multispace forte.

When I stop the engine a high pitched alarm goes off somewhere near the dashboard. The sound is best described as "di,short pause, du, di du" this is repeated 3 times.  Then, when the engine is off and I exit the car I hear another high pitched alarm best described as a rapid  "do, re, mi"  and this is repeated 5 times.

Could someone tell me what  these alarms are please. Also, where can I find a description of any other audiable alarms and what they mean.

I have checked the handbook and found only a minor reference to the fact that audiable alarms exist but it gives no description to identify the related warning / problems. The haynes manual is of no use at all. There are no warning lights shown on the display either and all else seems to be fine.

Many thanks,  Mark G

You could try a BSI reset - it may have got upset with something?

I have only owned it a week. I have no idea if an alarm was ever fitted but judging by the fact that this car has had 6 owners and has only done 81k miles then no one has loved this long enough to be keen on adding (and removing) a special alarm.  I have recently disconnected / reconnected the battery without paying too much attention to the exact procedure. I am leaning towards trying a bsi reset but am not sure of the consequences if I get it wrong. ie what can I damage / destroy?

It's annoying - but slightly worrying.

No lights for sure but keys - hmmm - will give it a more careful try out. Thanks

I have been reading about the reset. I want to make sure I do no irretrievable harm if it goes wrong before I leap into the dark.  If I screw up the procedure is all put right (atleast back to how it was before)  by doing it again correctly?

Good call. the second alarm, when the door is opened, is indeed because the keys were still in the column lock. Many thanks.
