73k what needs doing?
#1
Hi all I got the van (1.6hdi enterprise new shape) a few years ago at auction having done 70k its now on 74 k (I don't use it much) I have done the obvious as in oil change every year and just fitted new pads and discs.

Want to do another oil change soon as I know regular oil changes is important in these vans.

The van was motd every year but I don't think its had much done in terms of servicing, what needs doing around 70k? I heard that to stop the oil getting black you change a fuel filter or something?

A list of stuff I can get done on a service would be cool and maybe advice if its doable myself I'm pretty good got all the tools apart from a proper ramp.

Many thanks.

Would doing anything stop the oil going black so quick? I change the oil and the next day its as black as coal. Is that normal? my dads 20 year old petrol Nissan Primera has golden oil after 6 months still.

If I remember correctly it's 10 years / 150,000 miles for a cambelt and water pump.

I wouldn't go 10 years of 100k miles, seems to long to me,I would cut that in half ,50k or 5 years,

I've heard a few belts shaping before their time,!! Even chains to,but its up to the person,I change mine way before its due, always have done, think about it 100 k before you change cam belt,,how many hours on top of that sat with engine running at lights, traffic jams, ect,,anyway its just my thoughts,

It used to be that Diesels had a gauge showing 'running hours'...
(All cars should have that, really. And with todays electronics and 'glass dash' there's no reason why they can't easily implement it. )

If you believe the car has been 'city driven' mostly, then it's probably time to do the belt and pump. Or at least peel off a few covers and inspect the belt. (I don't really know the 1.6, so I don't know how difficult that is)

'New shape' I assume means the current design?
Which has been in production since 2008.
I'd put it up on a ramp or lift and do a thorough inspection of the underside.
Rust, slack in steering and suspension, wet spots on engine and tranny. Soot on the joints on the exhaust. The rubber boots on the CVT joints on the driveshafts.
