[Warning Light] Immobiliser
#1
I hate to be a newbie on here and start with a question! Anyway...

I have just had my 'proper' car written off, so I had the opportunity to buy a 2000 Berlingo and took it! It has been stood for a while, so I changed the dead battery and then jet washed off all the green algae. Started her several times yesterday.

Got insurance sorted today and then went to start the car. Nothing. Well it turns over OK. Noticed the Electronic Key Not Recognised warning light lit up.

I only have one key. It looks just like an old fashioned key. Why wouldn't it be recognised now?

Any ideas chaps?

TIA

Well, I disconnected the battery whilst I wrote the above.

Re-connected and it works fine!!!

The 2000 and newer is fitted with the BSI and immobiliser, and on these there's a small RFID chip hidden in the key, and a reader next to the lock.
The older cars doesn't have these problems installed...

Not quite, it's a body module of sorts, but not a bsi as most refer too... they came about in 2002 with the facelift 52 plate vans with psf1's and comm2000's for switch gear (basically when canbus hit the frenchies) Smile
