[Filters & Oil] low oil pressure after oil/filter change
#1
Hi all,

Decided to do an oil and oil filter change for the 1.6hdi (9HX engine, 2007, no fap). Drained the oil, changed the oil filter, put new oil, dipstick shows ~3/4.
Started the car and the oil pressure lamp does not want to go away and there is "low oil pressure" displayed on the multifunction display.
Any help is more than appreciated. Sump plug is tighten to 25nM as well as the oil filter. No dripping anywhere. The engine sounds a bit knocking, not usual, so I suspect something is not quite right, but cannot quite see what. I also changed the fuel and air filters, but that should not affect the oil pressure. The car starts without a problem, but sounds quite a bit rough, knocking a bit.

Thank you for any help.

Hi saskak,

have you fitted the oil filter correctly with the nipple fitted into the drain hole?

How many miles on the engine? May have disturbed gunge in the sump on a poorly serviced high milage 1.6hdi blocking the oil strainer pick up.

Hi polar,

Thank you for your reply. Of course it was a classic "newbie" mistake. The oil filter was not quite well positioned. I put the filter with the nipple in the hole (no cover) and tightened the cover on top and the low pressure disappeared. I had previously put the filter with the cover (push-fit type thing) and I only presume that it was not positioned correctly within.

Thanks again.

The filters can be tight in the plastic housing so in push them in the housing then remove them and position the filter in the engine - with the nipple in correctly - then i screw the plastic filter housing home. Its easier to get the plastic cap on when you have pushed the filter in and out before screwing it home if you know what i mean.

Glad to help.

Yep, I know now what you mean. For next time, put oil filter first in the hole and then screw the plastic cover on.

All is well when it ends well :-)
