Idle issue
#1
I have a 2004 1.6 petrol multispace.

The past few days it's been acting a bit weird mainly before it gets to full temperature.

If I dip the clutch after it's been revving at a higher rpm, it used to drop suddenly to about 1000rpm and then settle slowly and drop in to a steady Idle.

However it's been dropping fast and straight down to about 600rpm. When it's running cold, it stalls. Once warm it recovers to 850rpm and a normal Idle.

Once it's fully warmed up it behaves pretty much as normal or only dips to 800rpm before settling higher.

Does anyone know what the issue is likely to be.

The car runs on lpg but it does it on petrol although not quite as likely to stall on petrol.

It's a bit of problem as it is stalling when I am approaching a junction and I dip the clutch, so the power steering kick out.

Throttle position sensor or mass air flow sensor can cause the symptoms.
So where does this bit go then ?

Thanks

I could be wrong but just had a quick look at the throttle body and I can't see any removable sensor on it.
It looks like it must be built in to the housing and therefore its a case of replacing the whole body. Does that seem right?

MAF is on the intake pipe after the air filter and TPS is probably part of the throttle housing if it's a fly by wire throttle. Otherwise it could be on the end of the throttle spindle of the body held on with 2 screws. It has a potentiometer in it that fails over time.

Take a picture of the throttle body, this is a peugeot Engine so with respect to whoever said they had an issue with a focus, that’s not really relevant, sounds like idle control valve is sticking, or the electronic throttle body but I suspect it’s pre electronic throttle body so it’ll probably need the throttle body cleaning and the idle control valve cleaning and re initialising before you spend any further money on anything else, if it is the first of the later ones then clean the throttle body and reinitialise it, try the above and see if it’s any better worse, it may also be worth checking for a vacuum leak before stripping it with a can of brake cleaner around all the joints, if you want to know what your looking for spray a little (0.25 seconds or less at the air inlet, revs will pick up slightly... if you have a leak it will do the same Wink )
