radio problems...

hi all, newbie here.

bought a 2009 1.6hdi van, it had been stood for around 4 weeks and the battery was totally flat! I cant for the life of me figure out how to get the radio to come to life, or even how to program the date / time (the display is just flashing with January 2007). also to throw into the mix it has an aftermarket sat nav wired into the speakers somehow, this does work and the voice plays through the speakers.

any help would be much appreciated

When you say it's dead, does the radio not switch on at all? As the battery went flat, when a new battery was fitted did you go through the proper BSI reset procedure which is supposed to be carried out after battery disconnection? If not, look up BSI reset procedure, plenty of sites on line but you must read and fully follow the instructions!  

The date etc, is all set through the radio controls menu button [you scroll through various menus]

picture of the radio and dash would help. if it is an aftermaket, and you can use the steering wheel controls. try to push both at the same time the top and bottom key (track, forward and backwards). then navigate with the wheel. and select with the lower volume button.

Turned out the head unit was faulty. Replaced with another from eBay that was programmed to chassis number etc and all worked instantly!
