Column control replacement

Hi Folks,

My 2012 Multispace randomly washes the rear screen and activates wiper. Its intensely annoying, sometimes washes and wipes 1/2/3 times, all of this without me touching anything on the column  

Will go for weeks without doing it then it happens numerous times on a journey.

I've taken to whacking the underside of the column support and this sometimes stops it, so I'm thinking its something on the column switch assembly.

So a couple of questions:
- do you think it is the column switch or something else ??
- Any guides for removing the assembly? (I think I know how the steering wheel comes off)
- Any idea what I should be looking for on ebay as a replacement? (it has 2 arms plus a wee stubby arm for radio)

Before you go out and buy anything, think about trying a BSI reset. Both Citroen and Peugeot are known for having random things happen with the electrics and this can often [but not always] be cured with a BSI reset. There are numerous guides on how to do a reset but the main thing is to read and follow the instructions FULLY, as the BSI does control everything!

BSI reset won’t fix a physical issue with the column switch (hitting it fixes it for a bit so it’s obviously a physical issue with the comm 2000) it may however be worth taking the comm 2000 (the column switch) off and taking it apart and seeing if something is floating around inside or is loose but I doubt it

A comm2000 comes without radio controls so you need to swap them if new, or may come on a second hand set, they are all the same so don’t stress about swapping the radio remote if it does come with one!

You may have issues finding one with the same level of control as yours if buying second hand... they do 3 levels from memory, a level 3 is tops and will replace a level 1 or two, but a level 1 won’t replace a level 2 or 3 in theory according to the word of law in master technician handbooks, all after market ones (made by Valeo who make the original from memory) are level three and will replace any, order from a dealer and you’ll get the level for your car or possibly a level 3 but there’s no way of knowing

Basically if buying second hand make sure it’s a match for your serial number exactly and has the required switches on for front dongs and rear wiper if required hope this all helps

What exactly do you think it will do if you get it wrong? Nothing serious at all, I love it how it’s made to sound all serious like your van won’t work or something

Sounds like you could have a short in the tailgate wiring, worth a quick look before you go buying column switches.

I did the BSI reset, then went out for a drive all was well........for about 10 mins

I called the lad on ebay who offers the refurb service, but he tells me that he can't do my later unit (2012) so its a new aftermarket unit at £150 ........'kin ell !!

I'll have a look at the tailgate wiring and check exact part number first.......I would be very unhappy if it turned out that the issue was NOT the controls !!

Small update on this:

Although the BSI reset initially did not seem to work, the wiper stayed off, (apart from one incident immediately after).

I went out today, and took off the column shroud to check the part number and noticed that the control was loose, the clamping band was finger tight.....So I nipped it up, jiggled all the connectors and put the shroud back on.

Took it out for a 30 min run and it behaved.....So fingers crossed its all good

Good fix just goes to show have a look first before buying parts.
